THERE was dancing on the streets of York as fundraisers cut some rug to raise money for cancer care.

Dozens of people joined in as music blasted out across Parliament Street on Saturday with a variety of dance style pulling the public in and encouraging donations to Marie Curie Cancer Care, whose Great Daffodil Campaign runs throughout March to raise funds and awareness of the charity.

Joe Fenton, community fundraiser placement student with Marie Curie Cancer Care, said the public had responded well to the dancers, and some had even taken to the floor themselves.

He said: “We’ve had a lot of dance activities in York city centre as part of the Great Daffodil Appeal, to try and get York live and dancing and wearing daffodils.

“It’s going really well, and seems to be making a lot of people happy. We’ve had dancers from the 68 Club, they were great, and we’ve had line dancing, Zumba dancing and street dancing too, with a lot of people getting involved, donating money. It’s been a fantastic day.”
