COUNCIL bosses in East Yorkshire say they have saved more than £10 million in the space of four years by looking at new ways of buying goods and services.

A report which will go before East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s corporate and communities overview and scrutiny committee this week said “procurement” bills have been slashed by developing new purchasing processes and making more use of technology.

Officers said this had “streamlined” their operation in an area which accounts for the most council expenditure, apart from wages.

Officers said the new approach had led to the council receiving awards from two local government publications, but added that it was becoming “more challenging” to keep saving money in this area year-on-year.
