SPENDING time in York with my cousin, I came across what remains of the Cygnet pub surrounded by a complex of flats near to Constance Walk and Nunnery Lane.
My cousin tells me the pub has been vacant for quite some time; it’s an interesting building that outwardly seems to be in reasonable condition.
I know the years of community work my cousin has involved himself with in that area and I thought what a marvellous opportunity it would be for City of York Council to buy the property with a view to reopening it as a community facility.
A medical facility springs to mind, but something to support the surrounding community would be ideal, knowing the density of housing in the area.
I do hope that the council or interested private partnerships will look at this building and consider its true value. When it was a pub it served the locals and it could continue to do the same.
