AN East Yorkshire secondary school is bidding to build a vocational training centre to serve the whole of Yorkshire.

The multi-million pound Studio School partnership venture between Goole High School and Selby College would provide a technical education for teenagers, and could open in September 2013 at Goole High if plans get the go-ahead.

It would enable students to take qualifications that lead directly to employment or further training and employment.

Goole High head teacher Danuta Tomasz said: “We know there is a lot of investment coming into the Humber sub-region and we want to make sure that our students are ready to take on the jobs that will be created.”

Allan Stewart, principal of Selby College, said: “Our role will be to support the school in their aim to provide a high-quality, inspirational, personal learning experience for young people in Goole and the surrounding area; focused on supporting the transition from school to work.”

The school would specialise in three employment areas; ports and logistics, green energy and business enterprise.

Pupils will also be expected to study English, maths and two sciences at GCSE with the rest of their qualifications reflecting the employment route they are following.

Goole High School has submitted an expression of interest to the Department of Education about their plans and will submit their full application at the end of this month.
