PRESSURE on hospitals and care networks in East Yorkshire is set to be reduced after the region secured more than £900,000 in Government funding.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has received £924,602 as a one-off boost from the Department of Health for frontline social care services in the next financial year.

The funding will be focused on speeding up “transfers of care” and allowing patients who have needed hospital treatment to be discharged more quickly and provided with better support to cope in their own homes. The cash could also be used to help people avoid going into hospital at all, where possible.

The Government has also allocated £135,760 to the council through its Disabled Facilities Grant scheme, designed to help people with disabilities to obtain equipment and have their homes adapted to live more independently.

The extra funding will be discussed when the authority’s cabinet meets next week. A report by Alison Michalska, director of children, family and adult services, said health and social care organisations would agree on how best to use the extra money after analysis.
