THE Women’s Institute in the Selby area is looking for support to set up a new branch in the town centre.
The institute already has a number of local branches in smaller areas, including Thorpe Willoughby and Brayton, but recent demand has shown an interest in starting a new branch in the centre of Selby.
Pat Shotton, from the North Yorkshire East Federation of the WI, held a meeting at Selby’s community centre and said the idea had proven popular.
She said: “We have had a lot of inquiries from ladies in the Selby area, who want to start one in the town itself.
“We have some in the villages around Selby, but some ladies have had problems with transport, so they wanted a group in the town centre.”
More than a dozen women attended the meeting on Tuesday, and Mrs Shotton said a further meeting would take place next month to further discuss the plans.
