A MOTHER and her daughter from York are to shave off their hair for charity.
Jo Dalgleish and her daughter Lellie, both from Acomb, are to donate their hair to a charity which creates wigs for cancer sufferers.
Jo, 43, said she was inspired after she read about the Little Princess Trust in a magazine last year, and has grown her hair since then to the required length of about seven inches (17 centimetres).
Lellie, who is seven and goes to Knavesmire Primary School, decided to join her mother in shaving off her hair in a sponsored event, after the death of head teacher Carol Weston last year.
Jo said: “It’s been long since I was 15, and I’ve been talking about it for a year or so. The childrens’ first reaction was ‘no, don’t do it’.
“All the children were affected by it. Lellie said she wanted to join me to help people like Mrs Weston. We talked about it, because I wanted to be sure she knew what she was doing, but she understands that we have the choice. She says she’s lucky that she can grow it back, but a lot of people can’t.”
The pair will lose their locks at Wavelength in Acomb, on Saturday, March 3. To sponsor them, visit justgiving.com/joandlellie
