A NORTH Yorkshire tourist attraction which has seen a dramatic fall in visitor numbers could be given a new lease of life.
The Herriot Country Tourism Group is understood to have approached Hambleton District Council, which owns The World of James Herriot attraction in Thirsk, with a view to taking over its operation.
Annual visitor numbers have dropped from 40,000 in 1999, when the centre opened, to 24,000.
The district council has agreed to put a £60,000 subsidy into the museum in the coming year and has also reserved £50,000 for maintenance, with negotiations between the authority at the tourism group expected to be held over the next month.
