COUNCILLORS in East Yorkshire have vowed to seek extra funding to help communities hit by coastal erosion as funding from an aid project is about to end.
A £1.2 million scheme funded by Defra will cease next month and East Riding of Yorkshire Council has said it will explore other sources of finance to help households at risk of landslips.
Money from the East Riding Coastal Change Pathfinder project has helped 35 homes and funded the demolition of 43 dangerous structures and properties.
Coun Jane Evison said: “The council cannot turn back the forces of nature, but what we have been able to do for the first time is provide real practical support and assistant to people most at risk from coastal erosion.”
