Four members of the security team at York Hospital will complete a double Three Peaks challenge during March and April to raise funds for the Cancer Care Centre.

The four team members, Andrew Hamer, Dave Harrer, Darren Miller and Norman Elliott, will be wearing their charity T-shirts to promote the challenge.

On Saturday, March 24, the team will warm-up for the main event by walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks, a 25-mile route which the team is hoping to complete in under 12 hours.

Then, over the weekend of April 13, the team will tackle the national Three Peaks challenge by climbing the summits of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdonia in under 24 hours.

The Cancer Care Centre is trying to raise enough money to create a new garden and courtyard area which can be used by anyone affected by cancer. The garden will be a mixture of seating areas and plants and flowers which will become a haven for patients and their family and friends, whether this is to relax in the fresh air, read a book or sit and have some lunch.

Team member Norman Elliott said: “We have chosen to raise money for the Cancer Care Centre because all of the team have been affected by cancer in some way. Our team hope to raise as much money as possible for the new garden and we plan to do as many challenges as we can in the future including the coast to coast walk.”

Jane Archer, manager of the Cancer Care Centre, said: “We are so grateful to the team for choosing to support our garden project because any money they raise will help us to create this vital space as soon as possible.

“The new garden will be a beautiful and flexible area that we hope will be enjoyed by all who visit it. Many thanks to the team, we wish the team good luck and we hope they will get lots of support along the way.”
