IT IS a chocoholic’s dream and is made up of 100 Flake chocolate bars and five packets of giant Cadbury’s Buttons.
Yesterday, this spectacular Yuletide log cabin was delivered to the children’s wards of York Hospital as an early Christmas present from the chefs at Bootham School in York. Tom Kaye, catering officer at Bootham, delivered the three-storey Swiss-style cabin to the hospital following its official unveiling at the school.
He said that as well as the huge amount of chocolate, the creation used 120 eggs, six kilos of flour, six kilos of sugar and took 36 man-hours to bake and decorate.
He said: “Every year we try to create a special cake and this year’s has really hit the big time,” he said. “It’s a three-storey, chocolate log in the style of a Swiss Chalet, complete with Santa’s sleigh and reindeer. It’s been a team effort between me and Richard Peacock here in the Bootham Junior School kitchen.
“All the children have been getting very excited, wanting to catch a glimpse of the cake.
“They’re were really looking forward to the official unveiling.”
Mr Kaye, who previously worked for the famous North Yorkshire tea room and confectioners Betty’s, said the best part of the whole project was the thought that the team was doing “a little bit to cheer those who are not having such an easy time this Christmas”.
