Police are appealing for witnesses to a four-vehicle collision on the A64 in which an elderly woman sustained fatal injuries.
The accident happened at 12.50pm on Thursday, September 21, on the A64 Scarborough to York road, near Staxton.
North Yorkshire Police is keen to find out more about a maroon-coloured vehicle involved in the crash which has not yet been identified.
A spokesman said it stopped suddenly in the carriageway while travelling from Scarborough towards York, followed by a blue Citroen Saxo and a silver Volvo saloon.
The incident occurred between the Volvo and Citroen Saxo, forcing the Saxo into the opposite carriageway where it collided with a grey Rover 414 travelling towards Scarborough.
The front seat passenger of the Rover was a 71-year-old woman from Batley, West Yorkshire.
She later died in hospital.
