Kevin Pilkington: Seldom featured after the Old Trafford collapse, he went on to play for Port Vale. Still in action but now with Notts County.
Paul Parker: England international who left Old Trafford for a brief spell with Fulham. Later was Welling’s manager.
Denis Irwin: Had more than a decade with the Red Devils, winning every honour until he joined Wolves in 2002. Has since retired from playing.
Pat McGibbon: Two years after the City débacle, McGibbon moved to Wigan Athletic in a £250,000 deal. He has more recently been playing in his native Ireland with Portadown.
Gary Pallister: Iron-hard sentinel, his distinguished Old Trafford career ended in 1998 when he returned for a brief spell to his first-choice club Middlesbrough. Now a media pundit.
David Beckham: Fresh-faced winger then, now a football icon after his £23million move three years ago to Real Madrid. Current England skipper.
Phillip Neville: Lengthy and honours-grabbing career with his home-city club ended just this summer when he severed his association by joining Everton in a £3million move.
Lee Sharpe: After a bust-up with Ferguson the Brummie-born winger had an ill-fated time at Leeds before joining Bradford City. After finishing with Garforth Town, Sharpe was a ‘star’ of the recent Celebrity Island television show.
Simon Davies: Did not make it at Old Trafford, later moving to Luton. Welsh international who is now back at League of Wales club Bangor after a brief stint at TNS.
Brian McClair: Scottish international who, when he finished, seamlessly moved on to United coaching staff.
Ryan Giggs: Mercurial winger who is still doing the business for the Red Devils and Wales, though his club place is now under greater threat from young-bloods like Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo and Darren Fletcher.
Substitutes
Terry Cooke: Suffered a cruciate ligament injury that let in Beckham. Moved to Manchester City for £1million, but never sustained his obvious talent. Had loan spells at Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday, from where he was released in 2004.
Steve Bruce: After a dazzling United career in which he skippered them to all their major successes, he left for a final sortie as player-manager of Sheffield United. Also had managerial stops at Huddersfield Town, Wigan Athletic, Crystal Palace and presently with Birmingham City, whom he led to the Premiership in 2002.
