York Indoor Bowls Club’s Under-25s team were left stunned as they lost in the first round of EIBA double rinks competition.

They engineered a good position thanks to a 26-15 lead after ten ends before Darlington countered.

With three ends to play York still had a 39-37 advantage, but it was whittled away as they crashed to a 46-40 defeat.

Adam Liddell’s away team were in a good position after being ahead 12-11 after ten ends.

But looking to consolidate and holding three shots on the next end, the last home wood which came down “wicked” off another wood and took the shots. Darlington then took command to finish 30-15 victors.

Dave Attwood’s home side had done well leading comfortably throughout but crucially dropped four shots over the last three ends before sealing a 25-16 triumph.
