AFTER suffering a 13-shot deficit from the ‘away’ leg at North Cave, York IBC ‘B’ got themselves into a winning position in the Yorkshire Over-55s League division two.
The home rinks of Bob Blackburn and Tony Thornton led 26-11 and 25-21 with an aggregate of five ends to play.
The away deficit could have been much worse without a late resurgence from Alan Clapham’s team who won the last three ends, scoring nine shots, to finish 22-18 while Ron Kirkpatrick’s side won the last end to go down 23-14.
But at Thanet Road the six-shot aggregate lead did not last long as Blackburn’s side dropped a two, then a four, though finished with a creditable 26-17 victory.
Tony Thornton’s rink, needing a single on the last end to draw the aggregate, were tantalisingly thwarted by a measure to give North Cave an 86-84 aggregate win.
Redcar settler looms for tomorrow
YORK IBC ‘A’ complete their opening Yorkshire Over-55s League division one match against last season’s division two champions Redcar tomorrow after playing the away leg today.
Then on Sunday, York face a tough game against last season’s losing quarter-finalists Featherstone in the Egham Trophy. That tie will start at noon.
New Earswick have got a bye to the next round in which they will meet Selby on November 6.
