THE Harvest Auction fundraiser for St Mary’s Priory Old Malton Restoration Fund, held at the Royal Oak, Old Malton, on October 12, was a great success, raising £4,317. This far exceeded any reasonable hopes.
We would like to thank the dozens of parishioners and friends, who so generously gave goods and promised services for auction, and Stephen Edwards of Cundalls, our auctioneer on the night, who was excellent.
In spite of the difficult financial and trading climate, we were strongly supported by many local businesses whose generosity was a key factor in our success.
We are particularly indebted to Marion and Duncan Hunter, of the Royal Oak, Old Malton, who not only made their pub available to us but also helped with the planning throughout, and generously provided substantial quantities of excellent food to fortify the bidders.
To all who attended the event and indulged in enthusiastic, sometimes reckless bidding we offer our warmest thanks; without them all would have been in vain.
Howard and Fiona Croft, Town Street, Old Malton.
