POLICE in Surrey have been given more time to question a man arrested in connection with the murder of a police woman believed to be from York.

Detectives have been granted a further 36 hours to question ex-detective constable Peter Foster, the partner of a woman named locally as detective constable Heather Cooper, a serving officer with Surrey Police. Her body was found at Blackdown Woods, West Sussex, and she is believed to be originally from the Acomb area of York.

The 33-year-old, who has a three-year-old son and a baby daughter, is believed to have suffered fatal head injuries.

Her partner is being quizzed by police on suspicion of murder. Surrey Police said yesterday they had been granted a further 36 hours to question him.

He is believed now to be a heating engineer after leaving Surrey Police around two years ago.

The dense woodland where her body was discovered was just four miles from the home she shared with Mr Foster, 35, in Haslemere, Surrey.

Tonight the detached home remains sealed off as forensic experts search the property.

It is believed Heather’s parents, Caroline and James Cooper, travelled from York to Surrey today to identify their daughter’s body.
