A YORK heavy metal band is attracting thousands of internet hits with a startling new music video, writes Matthew Laycock.

Collectively We Are Tall, by RSJ, sees the five-piece band spoof a famous dance video from 2004 for Eric Prydz’s Call On Me, which featured men and women performing aerobics in a sexually suggestive manner.

Despite RSJ’s very “metal” look, it did not stop the men from York squeezing into some lycra suits of their own. And little more than a week after being uploaded on Youtube, their video already has more than 5,500 views, with people delighted and shocked in equal measure by what they see.

“All the dance moves we do in our version are the same as the original but they’ve been choreographed to fit our music,” said guitarist Vaughn Thomas. “We liked the idea of the contrast between how serious our music is to how silly the visuals are. It’s different and entertaining, so people want to watch it and share it with friends.”

Members of other rock bands from York, such as Glamour Of The Kill and The Fallen, can also be seen offering their services in Collectively We Are Tall.

RSJ, who hired out the dance room at Fitness First in Clifton Moor to film the video, are also playing at the Oxjam Music Festival at York Barbican on October 29, performing in the evening section.
