HUNDREDS of friends of a 15-year-old York schoolboy seriously injured in an assault on Knavesmire have joined an online support group.

Nearly 400 people had by yesterday joined the Facebook group Get Well Soon Aaron Richardson and many left messages of support for the teenager, who suffered serious head injuries in the assault on Saturday night.

The York High School pupil was yesterday in a critical condition in an artificially-induced coma in Leeds General Infirmary, a police spokesman said.

Among many touching tributes, one friend has written: “Thinking of you Aaron, you are a fighter, you will get through this. Miss you lots and love you too, our thoughts are with you.”

One has written: “Come on Aaron you’re a strong lad! You will get through this... everyone is supporting you every step of the way, you can do this. I can’t wait to see you up and on your feet again.”

Another said: “We all think the world of him and are devastated at what has happened to him.”

Many others have said their thoughts and prayers are with Aaron’s family and those close to him.

Their tributes join those made by York High School head teacher, David Ellis, who described Aaron as a popular, “larger than life character”, who had been involved in numerous drama productions.

Police investigations into the attack, which happened at the entrance to the travelling fair in Knavesmire Road at about 10pm on Saturday, are continuing.

Officers said a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both arrested in connection with the incident, have been bailed while investigations continue.

Anyone who can help with the investigation is urged to phone York CID, on 0845 6060247 quoting reference number 12110158476.
