I HAVE to agree with Mrs J Statham (The Press, September 2) regarding the number 11 bus service to Bishopthorpe via South Bank.

The scheduled last bus from Stonebow is 10.45pm, but having stood from 10.25pm until 11.05pm on a recent Tuesday night, no bus arrived and so a taxi fare had to be paid.

I rang the First York telephone number three times the next day. The first two calls were not connected; call number three was answered by a pre-recorded message informing me that my call could not be taken because the ‘memory’ was full – hopefully with messages of complaint from others who had to find alternative transport home.

Is it any wonder that public transport is losing passengers because of its unreliability to provide the advertised service?
