MANY of Britain’s top rally drivers are in action when the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire returns to Ryedale for the 35th staging this weekend.

And The Press is promoting a competition for the rally organisers to offer lucky readers the chance to win free admission and a free 48-page colour souvenir programme.

The event – which was won last year by veteran Welsh driver Gwyndaf Evans, and has seen rally greats such as the late Colin McRae storm to victory in the past – forms the penultimate round of the Dulux Trade British Rally Championship and seventh round of the Motoscope Northern Histoic Championship among others. It has attracted 120 cars from across the country and further afield.

The ceremonial start takes place on Friday evening, from 6pm, on West Pier in Scarborough, but all the action takes place in the forests of Dalby, Cropton, Langdale, Gale Rigg and Staindale, from 7.30am on Saturday.

The full timetable and stage diagrams are contained in the souvenir programme, which is available at rally HQ – at Yorkshire Coast College, in Scarborough from Friday afternoon – or at the entrance to the stages. Further details are available on the Trackord Rally Yorkshire website www.rallyyorkshire.co.uk

However, you could be the lucky winner of two free day passes, plus a programme, simply by answering the following question:

Which veteran Welsh driver won the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire last year?

To enter, email your answers to sport@thepress.co.uk by 9am tomorrow. Make sure you give your name, address and daytime phone number on your entry.

The winner will be contacted by phone tomorrow morning.

Winners’ packs, including tickets and the souvenir programme, will be available for collection at the spectator entry point at Pexton Toll Booth on the road from Thornton-le-Dale to Dalby Village. The winners must be able to collect the packs themselves.

All other usual Newsquest competition rules apply (see www.newsquest.co.uk/terms). The editor’s decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
