SIMON DYSON’S surge up the World Golf Rankings has caught the attention of the game’s biggest superstar, Tiger Woods.

The 14-time Major champion has invited the 33-year-old York-born ace to take part in his exclusive Chevron World Challenge in California at the start of December.

The 18-man field comprises the four Major winners, the top 11 available from the World Rankings, the defending champion and two players selected by the Tiger Woods Foundation.

The tournament, established as a charity fundraiser by Woods, is held the week after the European Tour’s season ending Dubai World Championships and Dyson received an email from organisers while starring for Great Britain & Ireland in their Vivendi Seve Trophy victory in Paris last week.

The invite is just the latest boon in a stellar season for the Malton & Norton Golf Club player, who has won the Irish and KLM Opens and posted a top-ten finish in the Open Championship.

Dyson, who will become a father next March, has taken some holiday time following his fabulous form of the last few weeks – a standard which has taken him to number 31 in the world.

Although not an official cash tournament, the Chevron World Challenge is recognised as an unofficial money event by the PGA Tour. It also offers substantial world ranking points.

Last year’s champion, Dyson’s close friend Graeme McDowell, received 50 points for victory.

In comparison, Dyson, pictured, won 40 ranking points when scooping the KLM Open crown just over a week ago.

With a first prize of around $1.35 million, and even last place taking home some $170,000, the event at the Sherwood Country Club, between November 30 and December 4, is extremely lucrative.

Dyson’s father, John, said of the invite: “I think it was beyond his wildest dreams to be invited to play by Tiger Woods.”

He is next in action in the Dunhill Links Championships, which he won in 2009, at St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie, next week.
