The Press (July 1) reported that the leader of City of York Council was questioning business proprietors in Colliergate on whether delivery times restrictions, at present up to 11am and from 4pm weekdays in streets, should be curtailed in the hope shoppers and cars users would be less inconvenienced.

The impression from the proprietors replies was that the nibbling of 30 minutes from the present delivery time restriction makes little difference, except of course for delivery vehicles.

It should be realised much of the important and busy shopping, contributing to the city coffers is carried out the narrow streets. This probably causes more inconvenience to the delivery vehicles, due to the restrictions, than the occasional pedestrian and private car.

The streets are immovable and the shops need the goods delivering on time by the vans and lorries, who most likely have other deliveries to make that day somewhere else in a restricted time slot.

The majority of the private cars and pedestrians are most likely able to choose the time and place where to shop and avoid some the frustration encountered by all concerned.
