A HUSBAND and wife have been prosecuted for benefit fraud.
Christopher Edwards, 31, and Lorraine Edwards, 29, both of St Margaret’s Terrace, off Navigation Road, York, failed to declare that they had obtained paid work, and were still claiming housing and council tax benefit.
The pair were charged with defrauding the council of £1,643.34 in housing benefit and £793.46 in council tax benefit.
They pleaded guilty at York Magistrates’ Court and were each given a two-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs of £120 each.
