RARE limited edition prints by Bob Dylan are due to be unveiled for the first time at a York art gallery.

Castle Galleries, in Castlegate, will show eight rare limited edition graphics from The Drawn Blank Series 2011 as part of a launch being carried out simultaneously in art galleries across the UK.

The rare signed copies will include previously unpublished graphics produced from drawings the legendary musician made while on the road between 1989 and 1992.

The images are being released to coincide with Dylan’s 70th birthday this year.

Craig Humble, art director at Castle Galleries in York and Leeds, said: “The series as a whole is Dylan’s first proper commercial endeavour into the art world. He only endorses and signs two things in the world – his collection of art and the harmonica he uses.

“All of the originals were sold, so the only way to own the artwork by Bob Dylan is buying one of these. “It’s a unique opportunity to see some unseen pieces from The Drawn Blank Series.”

The series will feature eight images in one size with prices starting from £1,500. Each edition is published in a limited number of no more than 295 copies worldwide.

Speaking about Dylan’s artwork, June Skinner Sawyers, author of Bob Dylan: New York, said: “There is a childlike simplicity about his paintings, a haunted – and haunting – folk quality apparent in their muted colours and subtle shadings.”

The collection will be available to view at the gallery at 9am on Saturday, and can be seen online at castlegalleries.com
