YORK golfer Simon Dyson kept himself in contention for the 140th Open Championship in atrocious conditions at Royal St George's.

The 33-year-old shot a two-over par 72 to finish day three at Sandwich in Kent in a tie for 20th place on two-over for the tournament.

The Malton and Norton Golf Club star bogeyed the fourth and sixth holes before reclaiming a shot with a four at the par-five seventh.

Dropped shots at nine and ten took him to three-over, but he rallied with birdies at the 11th and 14th, although a bogey at the last set him back.
