An imperious performance from Dunnington Cricket Club under-15s saw them secure a play-off berth in the Hirepoint Plant and Tool-hire zone ‘A’.

Unbeaten half-centuries from Dan Andrew and Liam Hessay proved crucial to the Dunnington total of 190-4, which was never threatened by mid-table Cawood who could only muster 47-7 in reply.

Jack Spofforth (2-5) and Oliver Peek Vout (2-4) were the pick of the bowlers and their side will now face zone ‘B’ winners York ‘A’ in the end of season play-offs.

Dunnington coach Paul Myles said of his side’s campaign: “We’ve had a very good season and we’ve got a great chance in the play-offs.

“The lads in the side from Pocklington School have been excellent and captain Dan Andrew has led by example.

“We’ve really benefited from the new net facilities that have just been opened and we’re looking forward to the rest of the season.”

York ‘A’ prepared to meet Dunnington by thrashing Clifton Alliance, who were bowled out for just 45 thanks to sterling spells from Ben Williams (4-17) and Cameron Lynde (3-8).

The stand-out result from zone ‘B’ though came as Londesborough Park beat Heworth by 22 runs.

Greg Drewery’s 50 not out and 41 from Chris Mitchell saw Londesborough set their opponents a target of 118.

Despite Tom Neil top-scoring with 38, a superb spell from Steven Croft (5-15), which included a hat-trick, helped to demolish the Heworth innings and they could only scrape together 96-9.
