Heworth ensured their place in the final of the Quality Solicitors Burn and Company under-11 cup by beating Woodhouse Grange.

They were put into bat having lost the toss and despite losing three early wickets, solid contributions from Ryan Whitley with 15 and Tommy Pearson with 12, gave them a decent target.

Woodhouse’s chase started well thanks to 18 runs from Matthew Ainley but Luke Huffer (2-5), Zak Moorcroft (2-6) and Whitley (2-6) put paid to any hopes they had of overhauling the total with impressive spells.

Two wins from Acomb ‘B’ took them to the top of the table and ahead of Bishopthorpe in the race for the play-off places.

The first of the brace came against a Tadcaster Magnets side that were unbeaten at the time.

But even in such form they could not contain the all-round ability of Dan Watkinson and Charlie Marshall who were the stand-out performers for their side.

It was Sam Beighton who made the difference in the second of their wins, top-scoring with 17, while George Penn, Jack Hoare and James Quinn were among the wickets for the losing side.

Heworth ‘A’ ended the season unbeaten and qualified for the play-offs thanks to a victory against York.

Dan Davidson (2-6), Matthew Anderson (1-4) and Josh Bell (1-6) did the damage as Heworth fielded first.

An impressive 53 for James Hattee for Osbaldwick against Ovington made sure that his side would feature in the play-offs.

His good work with the bat was backed by a solid show from bowler Kewell Ford (4-1).
