FLAIR play and fair play brought plentiful rewards for Easingwold Football Club’s under-8s in their first full York Mitchell Sports League season.

Easingwold Hawks started the season strongly with three wins and a draw in the first four games before the end of 2010 and they lost only two first-team games in 2011.

The club’s Harriers had mixed results throughout the season but, with a more consistent team and some new faces, they improved considerably towards the end of the campaign.

The club’s sporting attitude on and off the pitch earned Easingwold the Fair Play League title, an accolade voted on by opposing teams.

To gain experience against different clubs, Easingwold entered the Thorpe United end-of-season tournament and came out on top against teams from Selby, Howden, Wetherby, Pontefract and the Leeds area. The team defended magnificently throughout and beat Garforth 1-0 in the final thanks to a fantastic left-foot shot from player of the season Jack Bowen.

Other club award winners were – Hawks Clubmen: Thomas Hepton and James Wentworth; Hawks Golden Boot: Joshua Gath; Hawks Most Improved: Henry Thomas; Harriers player of the season: Henry Hanson; Harriers Clubmen: Adam Johnson and Chris Chubb; Harriers Most Improved: Tom Holmes.
