A TEENAGER from York will feature in a BBC documentary tonight as she decides whether to undergo a double mastectomy due to a high genetic risk of breast cancer.

Josie Bellerby’s mother, Radio York presenter Julia Booth, took the decision to undergo one of the first operations of its kind after tests revealed she had a 90 per cent chance of developing cancer. Tonight’s programme on BBC Three will show Josie, 18, looking at the options available to her, including taking the test which could leave her facing tough decisions of her own. Her father, Jules, said: “It’s a good film that sets the case out very well. Julia went through all this when it was very pioneering. It was an awful choice.”

The programme goes out tonight on BBC Three at 9pm.
