BUDDING Indiana Jones’s of all ages can get hands-on experience of what it’s really like to be an archaeologist when events are organised in the York area as part of the 21st Festival of British Archaeology.
The Festival of British Archaeology, which runs from Saturday until July 31 and is co-ordinated by the educational charity Council for British Archaeology (CBA), involves more than 600 events around the country.
Activities include finding out what lies beneath York Minster, digging test archaeology pits in the gardens of North Duffield and discovering prehistoric carvings in Nidderdale.
Dr Mike Heyworth, director of the CBA, said: “The festival is the biggest UK-wide event focusing on archaeology and with around 2,000 active community archaeology groups across the country this is the perfect opportunity for everyone to delve deeper into the past and to learn why archaeology is relevant to today’s world.”
