A MAJOR international deal has boosted a North Yorkshire manufacturing company.

Rillington-based Ellis Patents has been called on to supply 20,000 aluminium cable clamps for installation in electrical substations throughout Lusail City – the new city being built on the east coast of Qatar.

The two-hole clamps were specified through the Ellis Patents’ Qatari distributor, Mannai Trading.

Tony Conroy, Ellis Patents export manager, said: “When complete, Lusail City will be home to more than 200,000 people, play host to an estimated 80,000 visitors a year and be one of the host cities for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“All of which means it is among the biggest developments in the world today and one that we were eager to be involved with.”

Ellis Patents, which employs 50 people and last year turned over £5.4 million has already supplied cable cleats for the London Olympics, Heathrow Terminal 5, Wembley Stadium and more than 250,000 aluminium cleats for the Channel Tunnel link to St Pancras.

The Qatar deal was achieved through the company’s local representatives.

They were “able to make the necessary contacts and do a very effective job of highlighting the benefits of using our products over those of competing manufacturers,” said Mr Conroy.

The company’s cast aluminium alloy cable clamps, which are available in one and two-hole versions, are designed for higher specification projects that call for all metal products and can be installed for use in temperatures of up to 150°C.

Ellis Patents export team has a worldwide network of specialist distributors covering Europe, Middle East, Asia, South America, Australia, Kazakhstan and the US, working closely with all of them in order to ensure its name and products are to the fore whenever new projects come online.

This approach has seen the company secure a series of major recent orders, most recently for its Emperor cable cleats to be installed on two new Petrobras oil platforms being built in Brazil.
