Knaresborough attracted 25,000 people to watch its 46th annual bed race over the weekend.

With 90 teams from across Yorkshire, as well as Germany and the USA, taking part, Knaresborough Lions, who organised the event, said it had raised its biggest-ever total for good causes.

Nigel Perry, of the Knaresborough Lions, said: “Knaresborough was blessed with a wonderful day and fortunately there were no serious issues. We are confident that up to £100,000 was raised and a great boost was given to the tradespeople of the town. The whole event is a community effort and is typically Yorkshire - gritty but tremendous fun.”

Harrogate Harriers renewed their rivalry with Ripon Runners, who beat them soundly last year, edging into first position by the slenderest of margins - only two seconds ahead of their local rivals in a time of 14 mins 24 secs. HPL Flyers won the women’s event, coming in 11th overall. Logic Fire And Security were the fastest mixed team, coming 57th.

Lido Loonies won the best dressed bed award with their version of Nelson’s warship.

Proctor and Gamble 1 won the Most Entertaining Team medal.

Local squad the Tockwith Titans came in 70th with a time of 21 mins 52 secs.
