A CHINESE manufacturer has launched its European headquarters in Sherburn-in-Elmet, generating more than 15 jobs.

Power Link Machine Co. has unveiled its European factory making diesel-powered generators in the Vickers Building in Hurricane Close, Sherburn-in-Elmet.

In its bid to become a European leader in its field, the organisation, which already employs 400 people at its Shanghai factory, aims to expand its turnover locally to £10 million within two years.

Already a range of jobs are being sought, including administrative posts, mechanical engineers and electrical equipment assemblers.

The fast-growing international company was introduced to HSBC Leeds by its HSBC China relationship manager, and the financing of its new facilities was delivered by HSBC's Leeds commercial banking team.

The new arrangement will see HSBC colleagues in China and Yorkshire working together to support the business.

Sophie Han, general manager of Power Link Machine UK, said: "This investment in our European operation is a significant step for the business and will enable us to pursue further European and international opportunities.

"Our relationship with HSBC China enabled us to access the expertise of the HSBC Leeds team, allowing us to plan our investment with local knowledge and global expertise."

Mark Vines, regional commercial director for HSBC in Yorkshire and the North East, said: "Bringing foreign direct investment to North Yorkshire from China is a sign of the region's economic strength and strong skill base, and we're delighted that thanks to our global footprint and connectivity we have been able to assist Power Link on a local level in establishing their UK business and providing the finance for their new premises.

"The company has an ambitious growth strategy and we are looking forward to supporting them as they pursue opportunities in the UK and abroad."
