THERE is no doubt that following the Which? report on hospital car parks, York Hospital needs to review its arrangements.

While the new car park offers better facilities than previously, there are clearly teething problems with the ticket issuing, payment facilities and overall signing.

For older people, many of whom are covered by the concession arrangements, a complete overhaul is required. The well-intentioned scheme is complicated and poorly advertised, with only an inadequate leaflet being available at the parking office.

Information about concessions is not sent out with appointment letters, so visitors and patients have to interpret the concessionary leaflet as they stand in a long queue to make payment.

Telling the public that information is available on the website is of limited value when 60 per cent of those over 65 have never used the internet.

Visiting hospital is stressful enough, without having to worry about parking.
