THIS time last year, I predicted Martin Foyle would be sacked early in the season. It was obvious that not only had he run out of ideas, but the team were very defensive and got hammered by Oxford in the play-off final.

Gary Mills is so far a great improvement, says extremely positive statements at his press conferences about how we should to win automatic promotion back into the football league.

He is to be applauded for retaining both the goalkeeper and backline, but that wasn’t the problem; it was both in the attacking side of midfield and the strikers.

Jamie Reed could be a ‘discovery’, but the rest, including Michael Rankine, are adequate at best as the goals tally demonstrates.

This now a golden opportunity for Mills to wheel and deal in and out of the leagues to bring in three strikers/forwards to cover suspensions, injuries and loss of form.

Crawley, with all their money, reduced Richard Brodie to a bit player, so the task shouldn’t be underestimated, but by November if this problem persists then perhaps we should cast a gaze in Gary Mills’ direction.

This time I do have increased optimism we will be in Division 2.
