We are astounded… hurt… mortified. Someone has suggested to us that last week’s column had far too much waffle and not enough properties to rent.

All right, all right, the editor’s got a right to edit, I suppose. So, boss, here’s less waffle and more properties to rent in the York area.

Starting with a splendid home in St Paul’s Square (one of our favourite York locations, as it happens). This is a super, sympathetically restored Victorian town house sprawling in a dignified fashion over four floors. Part-furnished, it offers a grand entrance hall, sitting room, dining room with stairs off down to the lower ground floor which houses a luxury solid oak kitchen with appliances and under floor heating, utility area, WC, and living room with French doors to a patio area.

On the first floor there is a master bedroom with dressing area and en-suite wet room and a further double bedroom. Then it’s up the stairs to two further double bedrooms with built-in wardrobes and a family bathroom with sunken bath and shower. Externally there is a walled private rear garden with patio area and on street parking. Top house in a top area… offered by Linley and Simpson at a rental price of £2,150pcm.

The same agent offers a neighbouring (and a bit less costly) home down the road in St Paul’s Mews, Holgate. This is a furnished two-bed end townhouse with a living room, dining kitchen with gas hob, electric oven, fridge freezer and washing machine, French doors leading out to the garden with patio, decking area, small lawn and shed.

Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and bathroom. Off-street parking is included in the rental of £725pcm.

Letters Ltd can also offer us a tremendous twosome. The first in Queenswood Grove at Acomb, a newly refurbished, three-bedroomed traditional bay-fronted semi-detached house which offers reception rooms to front and back (the latter with patio doors opening onto the garden) a newly fitted and two double bedrooms with fitted wardrobes and a single bedroom. With driveway parking for two to three cars and a lovely rear garden with garage, it’s on offer at £795pcm.

Then Letters Ltd have an unfurnished three-bedroomed mid-town house overlooking the school playing fields in Gardeners Close, Copmanthorpe. Highlights here include a reception room with wooden flooring and gas fire opening onto a modern kitchen with dual fuel range- style cooker, fridge, freezer and plumbing for washing machine.

There is a double bedroom with wardrobe, a second double bedroom and a single.

The rental for this one is £795pcm.

Still in village land, this time on the other side of York, we have a two-bed penthouse in the modern development, the Cornmill. The apartment itself comprises of a large sitting room with exposed original beams, open-plan fully fitted kitchen with integrated fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, modern stainless steel electric oven and gas hob. The bedrooms include a double with en-suite shower room and walk in wardrobe. The development is tucked away behind electronic gates giving access to private parking and garden areas. Nice home, this one, on offer with Letters of Distinction at £750pcm.

Heading back into York, we run into a nice offering on the books of Susie Smith. This is a modern hi-spec, light, bright ground-floor apartment with open-plan kitchen/lounge, large double bedroom with excellent storage and shower room with underfloor heating. The property is located in Barbican Road, close to the city walls and, says Susie, viewings are highly recommended. The property is furnished and the rental is £625pcm.

Still in York, this time with Reeds Rains, we have a one double-bedroomed second-floor apartment in the smart Woodsmill Quay in Skeldergate. Brilliantly positioned for the city centre, the apartment is offered fully furnished and includes an entrance hall, open-plan sitting room, kitchen and dining area, bathroom and a bedroom with a balcony. The rental is £595pcm.

Martin and Co, meanwhile, have a “scrummy” terraced house in Nelson Street, York. A newly refurbished terraced house close to York Hospital and within walking distance of the city centre, this is a very smart home which offers a spacious lounge, a newly fitted kitchen with tiled flooring and a dining area, two double bedrooms and a new bathroom.

There’s a rear patio garden and on-street permit parking. “Viewing highly recommended,” says the Martin and Co team. The rental is £695pcm.

And, finally, if you want to be out of the city centre and in a rural spot, you might do worse than to try out an offering from Quantum, a delightful barn conversion in Sutton Upon Derwent. Among the highlights here is a living area, strategically placed on the first floor in order to take prime advantage of the great views including an overlook of the village church (the kitchen and dining areas are also on this level).

The ground floor offers two bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities, a third bedroom and an office/bedroom. Very individual and very enticing property, offered at a rental of £1,200pcm.
