TEEN definitely going green is Pike Hills Golf Club ace Charlotte Austwick.

The 14-year-old continued a memorable summer season by winning the York Union of Golf Clubs' Fulford Rose Bowl competition, the final of which was staged at The Oaks GC in Aughton.

Charlotte tamed the rest of the opposition with a brilliant round of 76 gross (69 nett). The seven-handicapper's nett score was two better than her nearest challenger, Janet Reeves of Forest of Galtres GC, with Easingwold's Anne Smith (73) two shots further adrift.

The triumph was the second in Union competitions this season for Charlotte, who only took up the game four years ago. Earlier in the summer she and Pike Hills club-mate Phil Robertson won the Yorkshire Herald Mixed foursomes final at Malton and Norton.

The Rose Bowl is a charity event with competitors receiving small prizes. However, the winner receives a £250 cheque, which is given to a charity chosen by Charlotte in conjunction with her club.

The Tadcaster Grammar School pupil has enjoyed a stirring rise this season. Besides her York successes, she has also qualified for the England girls' under-15s championship, reached the national final of the Golf Foundation Championships, formerly known as the Weetabix Champions event, and was runner-up in the Pike Hills GC club championship.
