A SHADOW minister joined a York councillor and schoolchildren to collect signatures for a road safety petition.
Sharon Hodgson MP, the shadow minister for families and children, stopped parents outside Poppleton Road Primary School with Labour Councillor James Alexander yesterday to canvas the area for support for a speed restriction near the school.
Coun Alexander said: “The parents from the school asked us to put forward a petition for a 20mph zone around the school, for the council to look at and highlight the traffic problems in the area.
“We collected about 70 or so on Wednesday in Westfield and at the school, and will be putting an online petition on our website yorklabour.org.uk within the next few days.”
