I HAVE written to the headmaster and pupils at the Minster School, asking them to forgive me for my rather rash comments about the stunt which raised £555 at their school for Comic Relief (Letters, March 28).

They say a “little knowledge can be a dangerous thing”, and had your reporter given us a bit more information about the headmaster being pounded with baked beans for Comic Relief, I would never have reacted as I did.

No one knew that few beans were used, and that the mixture thrown was beans mixed with water, cornflower and a dash of ketchup to produce the red slime thrown, until the headmaster replied to my letter in The Press.

It’s also said that “confession is good for the soul” and this is the reason I ask you to publish my apology, and also to wish Alex Donaldson and his school all the best for the future.
