WHILE there was little in the Chancellor’s budget to write home about, I don’t recall him announcing a cut in the winter fuel allowance.
We are constantly reminded that fuel prices are going to continually increase, but the Chancellor has chosen to ‘claw back’ the recently awarded additional £50 allowance this coming winter. I have had this confirmed by Julian Sturdy MP.
Now I agree that not every pensioner is in dire need of this allowance, but I object to the typically sneaky way governments conduct business.
This loss to many will not be offset by the derisory increase in pensions. Of course, once again it’s all laid at the door of the previous government. Aren’t we getting a little tired of this excuse now?
