THE Labour candidate for Fulford has clearly been to the Labour school of economics which teaches if the finances don’t quite suit you, make something up (Letters, April 2).
He claims the Heslington and Fulford ward committee budget was going to fall by almost £5,000 next year. The real figure is £2,080– which isn’t all that near £5,000. This also does not take account of the new £40,000 York-wide winter maintenance fund.
All ward committees are having their budget reduced by ten per cent next year to take account of the council’s funding reductions.
Despite this reduction, all next year’s advertised schemes, grants and projects for Heslington and Fulford will take place, as the Labour candidate would have found out if he had contacted any member of the ward team, rather than writing to The Press before he had checked his facts.
Coun Ceredig Jamieson-Ball, Heslington ward.
