POLICE have arrested four men in connection with an attempted burglary in Gateforth in which a 63-year-old man was injured.

Officers stopped a vehicle on the A19 at Riccall on Monday afternoon, the day after the incident at Hillam Road, Gateforth, in which a masked man tried to smash down the front door of the property.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said the occupant was not seriously injured, but he and his 47-year-old wife, who was uninjured, were both taken to hospital as a precaution, and have since been released.

A 35-year-old man from Sleaford, Lincolnshire, a 38-year-old man from London, a 27-year-old man from Newark, Nottinghamshire, and a 26-year-old man from Doncaster were all arrested and have been released on police bail as enquiries into the incident continue.
