MORE than a dozen people suspected of drink-driving, assault or criminal damage were arrested by police in Pocklington last month as officers continued their crackdown on crime.

Sergeant Pete Rogers, of the Pocklington and Wolds Weighton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said among those arrested in March were five people wanted for separate incidents of common assault and a 19-year-old local man who was allegedly caught with cannabis.

A local man was also arrested and charged with a racially aggravated public-order offence following an incident in the town centre on March 20, and a woman was arrested for suspected drink-driving following an incident in Pocklington on March 13.

And a 44-year-old man, from Stamford Bridge, has been issued with an £80 penalty notice for disorder for causing harassment, alarm and distress in an incident in the village on March 5.

Police in East Yorkshire have also revealed their priorities over the next month.

Sgt Rogers said they include tackling antisocial behaviour in Pocklington town centre.

He said: “Our high-visibility patrols in Pocklington town centre will continue throughout April to reassure the local community. Our patrols will include the use of arrest powers and the consideration of the use of £80 penalty notices for disorder for anyone causing nuisance in this area.

“Regular patrols will be made on an evening to reassure the public and to send a positive message that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Twenty-two evening patrols were made during March by neighbourhood policing team officers, in addition to regular patrols by other officers throughout the month.

“Our patrols will continue to target this area throughout April, given the lighter evenings.”

He said officers were also keeping a close eye on Robertson Close in the town after reports of gangs of youths causing trouble. To report a crime, phone 0845 6060222.
