FURTHER to Mrs Reed’s letter on Saturday, March 26, regarding the rubbish on the roads around the area where she lives, I would like to add my voice to the question of who is responsible for the clean-up of verges and lay-bys.
I live in Copmanthorpe and go to Sand Hutton every day to work, and I cannot believe the amount of polythene that is accumulating in the trees, bushes and verges on the A64.
Some of this almost caused an accident a couple of weeks ago when it got loose and blew across the front of my car.
Would the council like to clarify it this is their responsibility or is it the Highways Agency who do this work?
We are a tourist area, and I cannot see anyone wishing to visit if our roadsides are dirty and rundown.
