TWO York councillors have confirmed they will not be standing for re-election when the city goes to the polls next month.
Current Sheriff of York Richard Watson, who represented Haxby and Wigginton on City of York Council, is stepping down from his role alongside fellow Liberal Democrat ward member Chris Hogg, who has spent 18 years on the authority.
Coun Watson won his first seat, Haxby, in 1987 when it was part of Ryedale District Council and has been associated with projects including establishing the area’s defined Green Belt boundary, creating the Ryedale Housing Association and the installation of new traffic lights at the junction of Mill Lane and Sutton Road.
Coun Hogg has represented the authority on the York Museums Trust board. Ian Cuthbertson and Jonathan Lancaster have been selected to fight the ward for the Lib Dems alongside Coun Paul Firth at the local elections on May 5.
