Selby Town Council is employing its first apprentice.
Marc Leaworthy, aged 25, has been in the job for some months as part of his three-year appointment as a resource assistant. Apart from in-house training, he is attending a diploma course at Askham Bryan College and has already achieved an NVQ level 2.
Marc’s job involves working on council-owned play areas, the cemetery, allotments, community land, recreational open spaces and also digging graves.
Town council resources manager Andy Argyle said: “The apprenticeship is part of a scheme adopted by North Yorkshire County Council three years ago and it helps give a chance for an employee to learn skills.”
Marc said: “I am enjoying the work very much.”
