ABOUT 30 people danced for ten–and-a-half hours to raise money for the York Theatre Royal’s Access For All fund.

A total of 140 people took part in the Dance-A-Thon throughout the day yesterday, according to fundraising co-ordinator Polly Ingham.

The dancers, who ranged in age from three to about 70, could choose from seven classes being held by local dance teachers, including ceilidh, salsa and Latin American, 1920s and 1930s jazz, 1940s ballroom, rock ‘n’ roll, hip hop and classic disco.

Participants paid a £5 registration fee and raised sponsorship to do one dance session of one-and-a-half hours or for the whole day from 10am to 8.30pm.

The Access For All fund is raising money to install a lift to enable disabled access to the three floors of the newly-refurbished De Grey Rooms.

Polly said: “It’s been brilliant. The dancing hasn’t stopped.”
