Updated: A MOTORIST was injured as a police van answering an emergency call collided with his car in central York.

The incident, which involved a Mercedes B180 driven by a local man and a van driven by a North Yorkshire Police officer, happened at 10.20am yesterday at the junction of Cemetery Road and Paragon Street, near the Barbican Centre.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “The Mercedes driver sustained minor injuries during the collision and was treated at the scene by paramedics. He was not admitted to hospital.”

The officer was uninjured.

A few hours later, a white van crashed into a bus on St Helen’s Road, York, before speeding off.

A spokesman for First said no one on board was injured in the incident, but the vehicle’s wing mirrors had been damaged.

He said the incident had been reported to the police.

Jonathan Sillence, a resident of St Helen’s Road, saw the incident, which happened shortly after 3pm.

He said the ftr bus was trying to get past parked cars on the narrow road, when the van coming the other way hit the driver’s side before driving away.
