I WISH to register my disgust at massive price hikes regarding the entrance fees for the Ebor Festival.

I have been regularly visiting York Racecourse (and in particular the Ebor meeting) since 1990 and my parents have since 1970.

Over the last few years this has been a date we have looked forward to as a family, but I can tell you now we will not be visiting York again.

The pricing policy has been steadily outpricing working people for the last 15 years or so.

When I first visited the racecourse in the early 90s on a Tattersalls ticket, you could view the racing from the main stand (the one which has been demolished) and even the Melrose stand.

But since then, the number of premier stands and facilities Tattersalls-equivalent ticket holders can use has been steadily decreasing.

We have been gradually forced out of the new Knavesmire stand and placed in what was the Silver Ring enclosure. This suffers from a vastly poorer standard of facilities.

So we are now left with the choice of using poorer facilities, paying nearly double recent year's prices to enter the County Stand, or not attending at all.

As I have already mentioned we have made our minds up, something I believe many others may also do.

I find this a great shame as I really liked York Racecourse, the standard of racing, its unique atmosphere and the city itself, but an arrogant pricing structure has forced out the working family.
